The DynaTension P1000 portable tension meter is a small, lightweight, easy to use instrument that requires neither in-line installation nor calibration.
The P1000 tension meter is smaller than a breadbox and only weighs 5 lbs (2.3 kg). It derives tension from the frequency of vibration of a span of material. All it requires is keypad entry of cable span length, cable weight per foot or unit mass and tapping or plucking the cable. The P1000 may be used to measure and display either tension or vibration frequency.
A variable inductance sensor model VARI-L 101 held near the cable senses the vibration frequency and the P1000 does all the rest. Alternatively, a small (0.013 lb.) contact sensor, model ACSENS 103A may be stuck onto the cable to sense the vibration frequency.
